It's Getting Closer

This month we are expecting to see many exciting catches.  The gag grouper have begun their migration south from the panhandle into the Middle Grounds.  Soon they will be approaching the hard bottom of the areas west of John’s Pass and Tampa Bay.  However, this will probably take the entire month to occur.  As each cold front approaches Central Florida, the fish tend to move a little bit closer to us.   Not to mention the stronger winds as fall takes full force on the Gulf.  Amberjack fishing in depths of 200’ or more has been wild and will continue at this rate till December.  Jacks in the 60-100 lb. range have been out latest target on 12 hour charters.  The red snapper fishery will close on October 15 and they have been hungry to get that last bite before it’s over.  Red snapper have been in the 5-8 lb. range with a few even larger.  Red grouper fishing remains stable at a good level using almost exclusively dead bait.  We expect the reds to continue their fall feeding hobbits as the winter approaches.  In the depths of 50-80’ expect the grouper bite to actually occur.  A trip on September 29 yielded six keepers with only a six hour charter.  This is a month of many transitions with some of the year’s best fishing right around the corner.

With our 2006 32 foot Sabalo the run to fish 50 miles offshore is a breeze. Our boat rides comfortably with plenty of open shaded seating for six anglers. No matter how far offshore, we can take you there!
